This city was neglected because Tutankhamon replaced it with another capital, but Tel Al-Amarna flourished again when the Amarna tribe lived in it for a long time, therefore it was named after this tribe.

The History of Tell Al-Amarna.

Tal al-Amarna was founded by Amenhotep the Fourth, known as Akhenaten, and he established this place to be the capital of the country in the fourth year of his rule. This city was called the sister of Aton.

The city of Tal al-Amarna, is twenty-five kilometers away from Bany Hassan’s tombs. This archaeological area is surrounded by mountain ranges on three sides from the east, north and south. On the west side, it is bordered by the Nile River.

Four villages were built on the ruins of Tell Al-Amarna, which are al-Hotata al-Sharqiyya, al-Amarna al-Sharqiya, Hajj Qandil and al-Tal al-Sharqi.

When you cross the Nile to the East Bank, you will find two royal palaces, which are the northern and southern palace, as well as there is a wonderful archaeological temple called the Temple of Aton.

These boxes are now displayed in the Museum of Asmulin in the British city of Exford and the famous head of Nefertiti was found on 1912 and it is now displaying in the Berlin Museum.

Nefertiti was sad about the death of her daughter, and this sadness was evident on some walls. In the twelfth year of Akhenaten’s reign Nefertiti disappeared and had no effect after that. It is believed that Tutankhamon transferred her mummy with his father’s mummy to a secret location.
