After the restoration of the Manial Palace, which was built by Prince Muhammad Ali Palace, uncle of King Farouk in the early 20th century, it was opened to the public as a museum. The palace complex combines Ottoman, Moroccan, Persian and European Rococo styles. The gardens are closed to the public but are filled with rare tropical plants collected by the prince.
