God Anubis | God Of The Necropolis
God Anubis
Anubis was originally the god of the dead but later became the god of mummification and funerary rites. His name changed over time to Imy-ut (He Who is In the Place of Embalming) and Nub-ta-Djoser (Lord of the Sacred Land). The Egyptians believed in preserving the bodies of the dead through mummification and Anubis was the god of mummification. This is a big part of Egypt tours especially those that focus on the old beliefs.
God of the Necropolis
Many prayers and rituals to Anubis are found on the old Egyptian tombs. He was believed to oversee the mummification process to make sure it was done correctly. Anubis guided the souls through the underworld, tested their knowledge of the gods and their faith. During the weighing of the heart he placed the heart of the deceased on the scales of justice to weigh their soul. To experience this depth is part of Egypt vacation packages .
